The VS Code Environment Pack replaces some of those dependencies with your own local tasks and scripts: you know exactly what runs, you decide when it runs, and you keep the tools directly in your own environment.

A third-party extension can change, modify its behavior, become incompatible with your environment or simply stop being maintained.

With this pack, essential operations rely on VS Code tasks, Python scripts and configuration files that you own and run locally.

Your development environment therefore does not depend on the continued availability of an external service or extension to keep performing these operations.

You Decide Exactly When Your Code Is Modified

Tasks do not silently run in the background. You can apply operations to the entire project, only the active file or a specific selection of files.

The goal is not to automatically impose a coding style, but to give you explicit, predictable and repeatable operations that you run when you need them.

Your Tools Stay With You

The pack runs locally with Visual Studio Code and Python, with no cloud service or required subscription. The scripts and configuration files remain in your environment and can be understood, kept and adapted over time.

The pack provides a set of tasks and scripts designed to improve code readability and structural consistency without enforcing a predefined style or modifying files automatically without explicit user action.

Multiple usage modes are available in order to adapt operations to real project workflows:

• Global mode Processing of the entire project
• Active file mode Targeted operation on the current file
• Custom selection mode Manual processing of selected files

Included operations notably allow:

• automatic generation of a PROJECT_TREE.txt file representing the project's directory structure
• automatic creation of timestamped local backups on save (Ctrl+S), allowing controlled and reversible modifications
• controlled code reindentation
• cleanup of unnecessary spaces and trailing characters
• detection of redundant spacing (non-destructive mode)
• automatic generation of a project structure from a structure.txt file
• CRLF → LF conversion for cross-environment consistency

All pack operations are executed locally, without reliance on external services, intrusive extensions or imposed rules. The developer retains full control over when and where operations are applied.
