Understanding the data. The radar tracks observed daily maritime traffic across four strategic passages: the Strait of Hormuz, Suez Canal, Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and Panama Canal. The number of vessels shown corresponds to the traffic observed on the latest available day. The 30-day variation compares this value with the average of the previous 30 days. In the “All” view, the chart displays an annual average to make long-term trends easier to read. The traffic composition includes tankers, container ships, dry bulk carriers, general cargo vessels and Ro-Ro vessels. The data comes from IMF PortWatch and is based in part on vessel movements observed through AIS. It represents observed traffic and may be affected by AIS signal coverage or availability.
